The 1000 acre forest, known as “The Preserve”

The Trust for Public Land just announced that it has reached a new agreement this week with River Sound, LLC (subsidiary of Lehman Brothers Holdings, Inc.) setting the purchase price for the 1,000-acre forest known as The Preserve at $8.09 Million. The price is based on recent Appraisals. Work continues with the Town of Old Saybrook, the Essex Land Trust, the State of Connecticut and conservationists to raise the funds needed to buy this important coastal forest to conserve it forever as a natural asset for our region and our state.

Conserving this land will:

  • safeguard clean water, as this land includes tributaries to three rivers that flow to Long Island Sound and the Connecticut River,
  • protect important natural resources, such as the 38 vernal pools on the land and critical habitat,
  • foster the coastal and natural character of the region and the state, including trails connecting with other protected land.

The campaign is supported by:

Connecticut Fund for the Environment / Save the Sound
