Jim Denham, President of the Essex Land Trust, shares this letter:
This past Tuesday a major milestone has been reached with the Town of Old Saybrook voting overwhelmingly to support $3 million in bonding for the purchase of The Preserve. Now it’s the Town of Essex’ turn to participate in the fundraising plan. The Finance Committee and the Board of Selectmen have approved the disbursement of $200,000 from the Town’s Open Space Sinking Fund as the town’s contribution to this initiative. The funds are already provided for and now require a vote from town residents.
A Town Meeting will be held for this purpose on Wednesday, July 16 at 6:45pm. I would like to encourage as many of you as possible to attend this brief meeting to show your support for this initiative.
The Essex Land Trust is participating in the drive to raise $3 million in privatecontributions and will be making a contribution from its own land acquisition fund. Access to the Preserve from Essex will be along Ingham Hill Road where 70 acres will be deeded to the Land Trust for preservation and stewardship.
Please support this initiative with your vote on Wednesday, July 16.
